Workshop/Swapshop May 6th: "Creating Your Own Booklets"

with Marianne Raynaud, Coordinator TESOL France Grenoble
A joint APLIUT / TESOL-France Swap Shop / Workshop
Thursday May 6th 2010, 1 pm
IUT2, 2 Place Doyen Gosse, 38000 Grenoble

How can we reduce our preparation time and make our classes less stressful? One solution involves publishing booklets (workbooks) for class activities and homework. Participants are invited to bring their computers and/or flash keys. They will be able to copy files on the spot and customize documents together with colleagues. Teamwork will be one of the main themes. We hope teachers will leave the workshop with 50-page booklets ready-to-print.

Workshop/swapshop procedure

We will be writing on post-its as we brainstorm on a curriculum. We will be primarily concerned with what a French student needs to master to become sufficiently operational in English and function well in his/her future career. Different colored post-its will be used for language, communication skills, culture and oral activities. The task will be to place the post-its on a poster to produce a tentative curriculum and then choose the materials to conduct these activities. Finally, we will "collect" these documents in files to make up booklets. Teachers will be able to exchange documents and should bring computers and/or flash keys. Marianne will present a 25-page workbook with pair work activities ready to print with keys and will provide additional files from "QualityTime-ESL: The Digital Resource Book" according to needs expressed by the participants.
