WORKSHOP THEME
Sharing ideas, experiences and viewpoints for effective teaching
- Personal and professional perspectives of English teaching in China
- A guide to the Zoom application
- Making the most of Quizlet
- World Café conversations
- FabLab projects
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Two Filipinas who are making their marks in France will be sharing their experiences of teaching languages in other countries and online. This will include discussing how English is taught across the world, looking at similarities and differences for the teacher and in the classroom.
Furthermore, they will be sharing technologies that we could try to integrate into our own work, including Quizlet and a detailed look at the Zoom application and its suitability for use in online teaching. How does it work? What are the advantages? Why is it different to other teaching applications?
Then there will be a live demonstration of how the World Café type of activity can offer an effective opportunity for students and teachers alike. Let’s zoom in on your perspectives on teaching languages and bring your experiences and teaching methods to share with the group.
As a bonus, we will also be briefly viewing the insides of a FabLab and a co-working space in Pays de Gex.

Inclusive Practices: The What, Why and How of developing
IP in the ELT classroom
with Rachael Harris
Time: 10.00 am - 1.00 pm
Speaker: Rachael Harris
Venue: IUT2 Grenoble / 2, place Doyen Gosse, 38000 Grenoble
About the Workshop
- What exactly is IP and what is the difference between IP, SEN, differentiation?
- Why should we integrate IP into our teaching?
- How can we know how to help different students with different learning needs?
- Tips and tweaks to develop IP in your lessons
- The IP collaborative clinic
Despite the best intentions it can be very confusing for teachers who have received no or little training to know how best to support learners with learning difficulties in an ELT class. Sometimes these learners have not been officially assessed; we are not trained to do this so how can we help?
Inclusive Practices is the idea that with a little extra reflection it is possible to plan lessons that both support and challenge all learners, whatever their individual needs, and Rachael will be sharing tips and ideas on how you can easily incorporate IP into your lesson plans.
However the most practically useful part of this workshop may well be the IP collaborative clinic. At the start of the morning participants will be encouraged to hand in their questions concerning their own personal experiences or worries, “I have a student who….” “What should I do with a learner who….?” The whole group will work on providing the best answers possible for these anonymous questions, so start thinking now about what YOU want to find out during this seminar that promises to be full of exchange and learning.
Participants will come away with a better idea concerning the jargon, but more importantly with practical ideas, helpful solutions and a network of support to help them implement IP in their classes.

Nudge nudge, wink wink:
Classroom activities introducing indirectness strategies
Time: 9.00 am - 12.00 pm
Speaker: Andreas Grundtvig
Venue: IUT2 Grenoble / 2, place Doyen Gosse, 38000 Grenoble
Great workshop with Andreas Grundtvig!

About the Workshop
- Developing receptive skills
- Critical thinking
- Pronunciation and intonation
- Pragmatic competence (indirectness & implicature)
Traditionally, language learning has paid little attention to the difference between what we say and what we mean. Many teachers already recognise the need for a more pragmatic approach to language teaching but practical ideas for the classroom remain few and far between. The workshop begins with a look at mutual cooperation in communicating our ideas and identifies the strategies of indirectness (such as (im)politeness theory) that we use to save face. Participants will be actively encouraged to discuss and reflect on personal examples of where they or their students have failed to understand what was communicated because of the speaker’s implied meaning. They will go away with a collection of new resources aimed at preparing their students for a number of contexts, from everyday social settings to business meetings and rounds of negotiations.
About the Speaker
Andreas is a teacher, teacher-trainer, author, coursbook advisor and delivers regular workshops and traing days (often on behalf of Pilgrims). Based in Hamburg, Germany, Andreas works full-time at the BMK (Media and Communication) School and manages the local Cambridge Assessment Examinations Centre. Beginning his teaching career in Spain in the 1990s, he has since worked in Portugal, France, Switzerland and Lithuania. He is passionate about pragmatics and travels extensively, observing and recording the language of the linguistic landscape.

This workshop was organised in collaboration with the
Language Department Grenoble INP
About the Workhop
How can we help our higher level students interact and learn from online resources? Can we really get them to see things through different "eyes"? We look at areas of disability, mental health issues, women’s roles and bullying. In this workshop we'll explore different and varied online resources and look at ways to exploit them for both content and language. This is aimed at teaching intermediate and above.
At the end of the session you should have lots of new ideas and be able to use them in your classes the following week.
About the Speaker
Gerard has taught English in Italy, the U.K., Serbia, Egypt and Spain and was a teacher trainer in the U.K., New Zealand, Mexico and Spain. He has a DipTEFLA and an MA in English Language Teaching. Workshop: Teaching English to adults in France - specific problems
Speaker: Elsien Gale
About the workshop:
This workshop is about how to apply principles and ideas I have developed over the last ten years to the teaching of English to adults, specifically French mother-tongue speakers, in groups and individually, face-to-face, by Skype or by telephone.I propose that we concentrate on difficulties of (adults, including University students) French learners of English in general, and I'll provide interactive activities. If there is time, we'll do some work on Skype/telephone lessons, with activities too!
About the speaker:
I have been teaching English (and French, but that's a long time ago!) for many years, to all kinds of students: teenagers, a few children, adults of all levels or nationalities, different backgrounds, in different types of settings and a few different countries, like China, the Pacific, Britain, France, Belgium, Nepal …
From this hotch-potch of teaching experience I have retained a lot of varied experiences and a few firm principles and ideas: From teacher-led I have become much more student-centred and have become a supporter of student autonomy over the years. I have now been teaching francophone students for more than 10 years and I think I am getting a good idea of what specific problems they (and their teachers!) struggle with …

Workshop: English as a Lingua Franca and the ‘native speaker’ debate: practical classroom ideas for English teachers
With: Marek Kiczkowiak
About the workshop:
It is taken for granted that students prefer 'native speaker' teachers. It is also taken for granted that students prefer and should aspire to learn ‘native-like’ English. As a result, the ‘native speaker’ is seen as not only a better language model, but also a better teacher. However, does this really reflect our students’ language goals and needs?
We won't know until we ask them.
So in this 3-hour session we will discuss:
- English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and why it is important for ELT;
- Raising students’ awareness of the global nature of English;
- The myths concerning 'native' and 'non-native speaker’ teachers;
- Recruitment policies in ELT vs. the qualities and skills of effective teachers;
- Teaching pronunciation and how we can help learners be more intelligible in international settings;
- Using non-native speakers as valid models of the English language;
- Adapting your course book to suit the ELF perspective
By the end of the session you will have a better understanding of ELF and its practical implications for ELT. You will learn how to help learners improve their pronunciation and why ‘non-native speakers’ can also be good models of the English language. You will also walk away with an array of ideas and classroom activities aiming to move towards a more lingua franca and international view of the English language.
About the speaker:
Marek
has taught English in 7 countries and currently works as an EAP lecturer in KU Leuven, Belgium. He holds a BA in English, CELTA, DELTA and is currently doing a PhD in TESOL. He co-authors ELT podcasts at

Workshop: Apply This! An Educational Technology workshop
with Jeremy Levin
Technology will not replace teachers, but teachers who use technology will replace those who do not. The latter may be debatable, but when done right, technology can make teacher’s lives easier and liven up the classroom.
This workshop will demonstrate various PowerPoint games, applications, and other favorite ed-tech tools and websites. Some say getting information off the internet is like taking a drink from a fire hydrant. It is in my hopes that after this interactive workshop participants will walk away will a full glass. This will be a BYOD (bring your own device) session. Come ready with a laptop, tablet, or smartphone.
Jeremy Levin
With an American father and French mother, Jeremy has been split between two cultures and two languages his entire life. Born and raised on the outskirts of Philadelphia, Jeremy moved to Lille, France in 2003. With a Bachelor’s in French-English language studies, it made sense for him to start his career in translation, but he soon realized that something was missing, and it was that he’d rather work with people than sit behind a computer screen all day. 2006 marks the beginning of his teaching career and it has become his passion ever since. Jeremy specializes in grammar games and educational technology. He loves finding ways of making subjects that people typically think are boring into something fun. When he’s not teaching you may find him working on his electronic music mixes, his second passion in life.

Workshop: How to make your voice live
with Peter Dyer
9 am - 12 pm
How many times have we heard not only our students but teachers and voices of authority delivering a speech or talking in a classroom situation which completely numbs us senseless? We may be just as guilty of the same sin, sending our students off into a space far enough away to linger and survive until the end of the session. Hey? How many people do you know socially who just bore you to tears because of the way they communicate?
There are many little devises we can use to make our speech and that of our students more interesting and this workshop aims in the short time we have to examine just a few of these, particularly delivering lively text. Voice and body work are for another session.
The areas we look at relate to text but this is just as applicable to delivering our own speech. We will examine authentic voice texts used in the media, examining the type of text, ways to make delivery more interesting and then adding character to the voice of the speaker. We will then look at how we can use our voices to colour words, to make them more alive and to show our attitude towards certain words. The techniques also combine with the reason we say what we say. What is behind our delivery? We will look at one or two famous speeches and see how we can deliver them with the same passion and life in which they were first spoken.
Rarely do students of English, in fact native English speakers learn the importance of effective delivery, it just isn’t covered. There is no real mystery to learning how to be more effective and persuasive speakers. This workshop will be so useful to improve the way trainers work but useful to all students and in particular to the business clients we teach.
Peter Dyer, has been a drama practitioner for over 40 years. He began his career as an actor in Australia working on TV, radio, film and his great love, theatre. Workshop: Developing your teaching skills from home; a taste of online conferencing
IATEFL Webinar session on “Colligation & the need for a bottom-up approach grammar“ with Hugh Dellar
Saturday, 2 April 2016, 10.00am – 12.00pm
Have you ever heard your students say that “I understand each word, but I don’t know what this sentence means“? How many times have you corrected your students when they said “I am agree“? Have you thought about finding ways to bridge your students L1 and L2?
Hugh Dellar puts forward the notion of “colligation“, which describes the grammatical patterns that frequently occur with individual words, gives examples of a new way of teaching vocabulary with focus on what he calls “micro-grammar“ and reframes the use of translation in language teaching. His hands-on ideas, based on the link between vocabulary and grammar can easily be adapted to all kinds of teaching contexts at all levels and will answer how to handle “I am agree“ type of errors.
We will use the one-hour webinar as a stimulus to exchange our own ideas, practices of teaching vocabulary and grammar and you will leave with further resources to develop your teaching skills thanks to online conferencing.
Hugh Dellar, NILE training consultant is a London-based teacher and teacher trainer with over twenty years experience in the field. He has taught all ages and levels, both in the UK and also in Indonesia, where he lived for four years. He worked for University of Westminster for 18 years, but is now the co-founder of Lexical Lab and has recently co-written the methodology book Teaching Lexically for Delta Publishing. He is the co-author of two five-level General English series, Innovations and Outcomes, both published by National Geographic Learning, as well as numerous papers and articles for many ELT publications.
Hugh has given teacher training and development sessions in over twenty countries including Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Spain, Russia, Italy, Japan and Thailand. He has spoken on such wide-ranging topics as the nature of English as a Lingua Franca, the uses and abuses of corpora, approaches to teaching grammar and vocabulary, as well as many others.

Workshop in Grenoble with Katie Cóspito, Black Cat Publishing
Saturday, 16 January 2016, 9.00am – 12.00pm
Reading is key! The key to Reading!
Exploiting Films and Video Clips in your English Classes
A short video on the workshop can be viewed
here.

Reading is key! The Key to Reading!
Whether you are already using readers in your English classes, would like to, but haven't yet had the opportunity, or believe readers have no place in your curriculum, everyone can benefit from Black Cat's innovative expansive reading approach. Expansive reading uses the text and activities as springboards for students to better understand and explore the world around them, all while improving their language skills. We are not only expanding their horizons, but also expanding the range of activities you can do with your students. Come learn about our variety of graded-readers and blended resources, and walk away with practical ideas on how to make use of them in your classrooms.
Exploiting Films and Video Clips in your English Classes
Have you ever thought about introducing a grammar topic through film; perfecting your students' presentation skills through a movie clip; or even having your students act in class? Film can open your students up to a world of English they might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience or understand. Many teachers, however, believe film takes up precious classroom time and is difficult to exploit without a lot of outside preparation. Come discover easy ways to exploit videos in your English classes at all levels and get ready to get your students speaking, writing and listening through film.
Katie Cóspito is a teacher, teacher trainer, and the representative for Black Cat books in France. After three years in Spain teaching English to students from 2-18, she decided to try her hand in the editorial world and made the leap to living in France. Working now with Black Cat allows her to speak to teachers and lead training sessions all over the country. Drawing on her past experiences as an uninitiated, young teacher, she knows far too well the difficulty which comes with juggling over 800 students, but also the joy in being a student’s first connection with the English-speaking world. She is enthusiastic therefore, about finding teachers the best books available and giving them all the tools to more easily incorporate new English materials in their classes. Katie continues giving English classes to young learners, not having been able to leave teaching completely behind. Trilingual, and an avid traveler, she hopes to soon start training teachers in other areas of the world.

Workshop: Teaching to test or testing to teach? Integrating BULATS or Cambridge English examinations in the classroom
with Andrew Spraggins
Saturday, 17 October 2015, 9.00am – 12.00pm

Venue: IUT2 Grenoble, 2 place Doyen Gosse, 3800 Grenoble
This event is FREE to TESOL France members. Non-member registration fee: €8. Please bring exact change.
Teaching to test or testing to teach? Integrating BULATS or Cambridge English examinations in the classroom
With the recent changes brought about by the CPF, language training organisations throughout France have needed to urgently address the question of incorporating a recognised English language certification into their training offer. To many, BULATS appeared on the scene out of nowhere, an “illustre inconnu” that we feel we should know. This is not always the case. In existence since 1997 (and France is the second biggest market in the world!)…and I still haven’t heard of it? Troubling times… This practical seminar will introduce BULATS and Cambridge English examinations and address how these evaluation tools can have a positive impact on learners. We will address the question of how the integration of a test or examination can impact on our way of teaching. Should we simply teach to test (“bachotage”)? Do we really want to change what we do? Do we need to? Cambridge English Language Assessment speaks of “positive washback” when speaking of their tests and exams, claiming that they impact positively on the learning experience. Using test items from a range of their tests and exams, we will address the issue of whether or not they can actually enrich our teaching practice.
Andrew Spraggins has been teaching general and business English in and around Lyon for longer than he cares to mention! Since 1989, he has worked in various capacities at the Université Catholique de Lyon, teaching translation, conference and liaison interpreting as well as business English and interpersonal communication. After a period of running the Translation section at the Ecole Supérieure de Traduction et Relations Internationales, Andrew got hooked on Cambridge English examinations. Since 2001, he has been the Centre Exams Manager for Cambridge English exams at ESTRI Centre régional d’examens internationaux, catering for nearly 3,000 candidates per year. He is also a BULATS agent and a Cambridge English speaking examiner at all CEFR levels. A previous regional coordinator for Cambridge English Language Assessment, he is in frequent contact with a wide range of teaching establishments, from écoles primaires up to grandes écoles as well as private language training organisations specializing in the corporate sector, helping them to integrate BULATS and Cambridge English examinations into their training courses.
Workshop: The ’Réforme de la formation’ and its impact on language training and why teachers should be concerned
with Andrew Wickham
Saturday, 13 June, 9.00am – 12.00pm
The ’Réforme de la formation’ and its impact on language training and why teachers should be concerned
The CPF, the CEP, the Entretien Professionnel, the new role of the OPCAs, the end of the Plan de Formation, the redefinition of the Acte de Formation, the FOAD : the 2015 reform of Formation Professionnelle, sounds terribly confusing, but it is not yet another fine-tuning of the system : this time it is a revolution in the way training is designed, funded, organised and delivered in France and will have wide-ranging consequences for language trainers. There are real risks and a number of opportunities, for those willing to take the plunge and get informed.
This workshop will provide you with an overview of the reform, it’s causes, its uncertainties, its impact and consequences and will offer a number of suggestions allowing trainers to better adapt what they do and how they market themselves.
Andrew Wickham has had a variety of roles in the language training business - a former language trainer, director of studies and language school founder and manager, he has also directed large blended learning projects, run the language training centre of a major multinational and carried out a variety of consultancy assignments for schools, companies and institutions. He is also the author of “Le Marché de la Formation Langues à l’heure de la Mondialisation”, a market study that has become the reference for the profession in France. He is particularly concerned by the challenges faced by teachers in a market that is becoming industrialised and technology oriented.

Workshop: Creativity and Motivation: A virtuous cycle
with Chaz Pugliese
Saturday, March 14th 2015, 9:00am-12:00pm
Venue: IUT2 Grenoble
Address: 2, Place Doyen Gosse, 38000 Grenoble
Creativity and Motivation: A virtuous cycle
This is the second part a two-part workshop series at the Grenoble branch of TESOL France, this time with
Chaz Pugliese, author of the book
Being Creative.
Teachers have a tough job, here are ust a few challenges : catering for mixed groups, getting the students' attention, creating a motivating environment, helping the students stay focused. A tall order? Yes indeed. In this practical seminar
Chaz Pugliese will suggest that creative methodology may help us find solutions, influence the students' motivation, and fuel their interest and curiosity to learn. He will firstly look at the different types of creativity and debunk a few myths, and then, drawing from state of the art research in psychology, he will outline strategies that may enhance our creative potential. Finally, he will illustrate with numerous examples how these can be implemented in the classroom. The ultimate goal is for the teacher to come up with teaching ideas that are engaging both affectively and cognitively, are simple to use, require little or no preparation and are fun and challenging to do in the classroom.

Creativity and Motivation part 1.
Saturday, December 13th, 2014
Many of our workshop participants requested a workshop on creativity and motivation in the language classroom. Due to the absolute relevance of the theme, we are dedicating two workshops to look into different ways of how creativity and motivation can be best used and developed. On December 13th, we exchanged ideas on how each of us interprets these terms, how we use them and what challenges we meet. Csilla Jaray-Benn gave a quick look into CCL (Collaborative Creative Learning) techniques with and without technology. She presented the advantages and applications of the Question Formation Technique® adapted to language learning and creative uses of Haïku cards, which we all tried out during the workshop. We also found out about creative activities, which help build learners’ vision of being a successful L2 speaker.
Marianne Raynaud shared her experience in motivating her students through her film-making projects.
Speaker Tour
September 13th, 2014
Speaker: Jonathan Marks, freelance writer, Poland
Further information:
Grenoble was the second stop of the TESOL France nationwide speaker tour by Jonathan Marks, pronunciation specialist.
During his two-hour hands-on workshops, Jonathan Marks will addressed some of the questions and doubts about pronunciation teaching commonly raised by teachers. Participants were able to try out practical activities designed to help learners tame and train their mouthful of air to produce the desired sounds and links with lexis, grammar and grammatical functions were also considered.
Jonathan Marks was born in Leeds, United Kingdom, and he currently lives in Poland. His keen interest in teaching English pronunciation began during his time as teacher and teacher trainer at International House, Hastings, in the 1980s and his association with IATEFL. He is the author of English Pronunciation in Use - Elementary (CUP 2007) and the co-author of The Book of Pronunciation (Delta Publishing 2012). He is a regular contributor to the Macmillan Dictionary Blog and he has written numerous articles, teaching materials, reviews and language awareness essays for various online publications.
E-Learning for Freelance Teachers
June 21st, 2014
Elizabeth Anne, Service des Langues, Université Joseph Fourier, Grenoble
E-learning, m-learning, MOOCS and all that stuff
Moderated by Csilla Jaray-Benn, TESOL France Regional Coordinator
Further information:
The theme was initiated during our last workshop. Elizabeth Anne gave an introduction into what e-learning, m-learning and MOOCS are, how they are used in language education and which free on-line learning environments can be used by freelance teachers.
She spoke about differences between a cMOOC and an xMOOC and after looking at some examples, we moved on to more practical and immediately available online tools which are easy to incorporate into classes, and which give the students extra speaking or writing practice outside class. As Elizabeth put it “Blended learning is the key word together with ‘start small’”.
Csilla Jaray-Benn demonstrated some concrete tools, such as Edmodo and Quizlet which can be used by freelance teachers to develop their own e-learning environments for their students.
The workshop was also an opportunity to exchange ideas about TESOL France events in the region for the next academic year, which will start with a nation-wide speaker tour event by Jonathan Marks on September 13th.
Professional Development: Conventional and Fringe
Further information:
We focused on different aspects and ways of developing our professional skills, enhancing our knowledge and keeping up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in the fields of ELT. Our two guest speakers presented various approaches and practices spanning traditional and novel PD frameworks while giving hands-on tips for teacher development.
Vicky Loras talked about “Professional Development for Now and the Future: a Guide for Educators”. She gave a broad overview on possible ways we can continuously develop ourselves as teachers both in traditional, off-line and in more “fringy” ways, thanks to on-line presence. Her suggestions within the first category include attending international or local conferences, workshops, swapshops, listening to talks, or meeting and exchanging with colleagues. She considers that the on-line teacher community can be a rich source of professional development and highlights its personal aspect. She encourages us to engage in professional communication through Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, by following and commenting on blog posts, or sharing our ideas on a personal weblog. Vicky’s personal story has convinced many of us about how far an on-line community can take us on the path of professional development.
Jane Ryder presented a “DIY Approach to Professional Development”, proposing different paths teachers can take to change their lives as professionals. She highlighted the fact that “if we are doing something we enjoy, then continuous professional development is a natural component of our daily work life. It is an attitude” (Alison Perkins 2002). She made us realize that developing professionally as a teacher is closely linked to developing personally and is a natural process we all do, regardless of what school or institution we belong to. This constant development is carried out with respect to ourselves, to our students, our colleagues, the school we belong to and finally to our profession as a teacher.
We wrapped up with an exercise, which engaged us into reflecting on what we can change and what we cannot change in our teaching lives.

Joint Swapshop with APLIUT: "Creating Your Own Booklets"
How can we reduce our preparation time and make our classes less stressful? One solution involves publishing booklets (workbooks) for class activities and homework. Participants are invited to bring their computers and/or flash keys. They will be able to copy files on the spot and customize documents together with colleagues. Teamwork will be one of the main themes. We hope teachers will leave the workshop with 50-page booklets ready-to-print.
Workshop/swapshop procedure:
We will be writing on post-its as we brainstorm on a curriculum. We will be primarily concerned with what a French student needs to master to become sufficiently operational in English and function well in his/her future career. Different colored post-its will be used for language, communication skills, culture and oral activities. The task will be to place the post-its on a poster to produce a tentative curriculum and then choose the materials to conduct these activities. Finally, we will "collect" these documents in files to make up booklets. Teachers will be able to exchange documents and should bring computers and/or flash keys. Marianne will present a 25-page workbook with pair work activities ready to print with keys and will provide additional files from "QualityTime-ESL: The Digital Resource Book" according to needs expressed by the participants.

Venue: Grenoble INP, Bâtiment Pluriel, 701, rue de la Piscine, Domaine universitaire, Grenoble

- English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and why it is important for ELT;
- Raising students’ awareness of the global nature of English;
- The myths concerning 'native' and 'non-native speaker’ teachers;
- Recruitment policies in ELT vs. the qualities and skills of effective teachers;
- Teaching pronunciation and how we can help learners be more intelligible in international settings;
- Using non-native speakers as valid models of the English language;
He co-authors ELT podcasts at
www.theteflshow.com and advocates professional equality between ‘native’ and ‘non-native speakers’ at

Peter has tutored and continues to coach actors in theatre skills and has worked extensively on theatre of the grotesque. He is a trained drama teacher and has worked in a number of primary and secondary schools in Australia and England. Peter is an English language teacher who is currently working in Paris with large French corporations using drama and improvisation techniques to run workshops. He also specialises in effective speaking and voice work and presentation skills. He manages to work in Australia teacher training and working with students preparing to enter Australian universities. He has worked for the Pilgrims organisation since 1993 and has taught Drama and English to young adults, adults and now specialises in teacher training.

Venue: IUT2 Grenoble,
2 place Doyen Gosse, 38000 Grenoble
This event is FREE to TESOL France members.
Non-member registration fee: €8. Please bring exact change.
If you like, joining TESOL France, €49 (or renewing your membership) will be possible on the day.

Chaz Pugliese is a trainer, author and presenter working out of Paris. He holds an MA (Applied Linguistics) from Sheffield Hallam University, a Licentiate Diploma (TESOL) from Trinity College, London, and Post-Graduate Diploma from the Harvard School od Education. Chaz has been researching creativity and motivational issues for nearly a decade now.
Past director of Teacher Training at Pilgrims, UK, Chaz is self-employed while he’s maintained solid links with Pilgrims. He has trained teachers in over 35 countries and he currently carries out consultancies for the Chinese Ministry of Education on behalf of the British Council. Chaz has been keynote speaker at over 20 international ELT events from Malaysia to Russia.
He has contributed several chapters to colleagues’ books, and has two books out:
Being Creative which came out in 2010.
Principled Communicative Approach (co-written with Jane Arnold and Zoltan Dörnyei) is just out with Helbling Languages. A third one is in preparation.
Chaz considers hmself a general methodologist with a special interest in psycholinguistics, corpus studies, spoken grammar, material development and group processes.
He’s a keen runner, an enthusiastic guitarist, and likes any music that’s honest, genuine and raw.

Creativity and Motivation

April 12th, 2014
Initiation workshop supported by TESOL France.
Vicky Loras,

Professional Development for Now and the Future: a Guide for Educators
Jane Ryder,
TESOL France Vice-President,
ESOL Strasbourg
A
DIY Approach to Professional Development
Moderated by Csilla Jaray-Benn,
TESOL France Regional Coordinator

With Marianne Raynaud, Coordinator TESOL France Grenoble
IUT2, 2 Place Doyen Gosse, 38000 Grenoble
